Can I change or withdraw my bid?
A bid in an auction usually cannot be changed or withdrawn because:
- Binding agreement: legally, a bid in an auction is considered a binding agreement. Once you bid, you agree to the auction conditions.
- Level playing field: this prevents abuse, such as strategically withdrawing bids to manipulate prices.
- Transparency and reliability: auctions are based on trust. If bids could simply be withdrawn, other bidders would be less inclined to participate seriously.
- Protection of the seller: the seller relies on the bids and may suffer damage if a bid is withdrawn.
- Legal framework for foreclosure auctions: in foreclosure auctions, the procedure is laid down by law. The framework provided by the legislator is leading and mandatory, meaning a submitted bid is final and legally binding.
